PP Dwarsrug Wind Farm

Project Description

South Africa Mainstream Renewable Power Developments (Pty) Ltd proposed to construct the Dwarsrug Wind Farm near Loeriesfontein, Northern Cape Province. The Dwarsrug Wind Farm is located within the Hantam local Municipality.

It is envisaged that the development will consist of approximately 35-95 wind turbines with a total generation capacity of approximately 140MW. The generated electricity will fed into the national distribution network at Helios substation via a 132kV power line.

The wind turbines have a hub height of up to 140m and a rotor diameter of up to 140m. The foundation of each wind turbine will have a footprint of approximately 20m x 20m, and will be approximately up to 5m deep.
The electricity generation capacity for each turbine will range from 1.5 to 4MW, depending on the final wind turbine selected for the proposed development.

Other associated infrastructures include road, construction lay down areas, borrow pits, fencing, administration and warehouse buildings.

Wind turbines are generally designed to operate continuously for more than 20 years with minimal maintenance. These facilities can be monitored and controlled remotely with a mobile team for maintenance when required.
